I quit Smoking & also Drinking Alcohol
I starting drinking alcohol and smoking pretty late compared to people around me. At around 20 I had my first blackouts, and I started smoking maybe a year later ?
But I was a bit intense sometimes with quantities.
I stopped drinking after I had a (pretty average) blackout at a friends house. I remember very clearly that I missed a part of the party, and when I woke up, I thought:
« Well this sucks! »
The worst part is that I never got hangover. Thankfully I came from a family that mostly do not drink either, but I read in a book [insert here] that having no hangover increases your chances of becoming an alcoholic, since our body are not able to properly tell us to take it slow.
I quit smoking a while later, after having stopped a couple of times intermitently for two years. « It was part of the journey », some would say to me years later. I stopped cold-turkey, without any help from professionals or medications/products.
What helped me most to stay "sober" was to avoid hagging out with people that smoked or drank a lot. This decision of mine caused a friendship to end, but my health is THAT important.
Below is an aproximation of the timelines I would see in smoke-quitting apps. I extrapolated for the alcohol section.
